The Jacobs Middle School was built in 1956 and served as a junior high school until 1982. The facility then served as the Eureka City Schools District's continuation high school through 2009, when the facility was finally closed. This photo, dated 2012, shows the former buildings sitting vacant and fenced.
The District demolished the vacant buildings in 2021. All that currently remain are concrete pads, foundations, and pavement. The site is ready to be reimagined.
AMG Communities plans to redevelop approximately 8.6 acres of the Jacobs site - shown in the photo at left - with the goal of creating a mix of residential and community-serving commercial uses. We envision a housing mix accessible to City residents at all income levels.
The new Jacobs community will elevate and serve the surrounding community. As the photo above shows, the development does not include the existing sports fields, which will remain District property and will continue to provide recreational space for Birney Elementary and the community.
Planning efforts are in the very earliest stages. We understand and appreciate the community concern about the Jacobs site, and how and when it will be transformed. As we begin work on the project, we invite community input and will communicate with the community regarding potential plans for the development.
We also recognize the importance of community investment, and welcome inquiries from community members that are interested in investing in this project. Please direct inquiries to info@thejacobscommunity.com.
